Why Knowing Your Own IP Matters

There are some things you should just know, especially when torrenting. When it comes to troubleshooting, there are some things you absolutely MUST check first. This includes, but is NOT limited to... YOUR OWN IP ADDRESS.


If you don't check it, then you run the risk of doing something REALLY stupid, like this fellow, who posted to the utorrent support forum, and didn't notice the number of times the same IP address kept cropping up in the ban list. The post has since been removed, but for your entertainment, here it is....

The error message he's seeing? It's the client adding his own external IP address to the ban list, so that there's no chance of the client ATTEMPTING to connect back to himself. As it is, this fool has managed to post his IP address, timestamped, all over a public forum.

What a buffoon. He's a prime canddiate for the Hall of Morons!
