US Box Office Estimates March 5-7, 2010

A New feature somewhat.

To go along with the study I'm doing, I've also decided to publish the weekend box office figures each Sunday. These figures are kindly provided by BoxOfficeMojo.com

Almost 3 months after release, Avatar is still bringing in a decent amount of money, although the runaway winner was Alice, with one of the biggest opening weekends ever. This beats even Avatar (who only pulled in an estimated $73Million, the weekend before Christmas). It will have to really hustle to catch Avatar though, as Disney's decision to shorten the cinema play time means it won't have the staying power to reap the long-dollar.
Rank Film Weekend Gross (Millions) Theaters Total Gross to Date (Millions) Weeks on release
1 Alice in Wonderland $116.3 3,728 $116.3 1
2 Brooklyn's Finest $13.5 1,936 $13.5 1
3 Shutter Island $13.3 3,178 $95.8 3
4 Cop Out $9.1 3,150 $32.4 2
5 Avatar $7.7 2,163 $720.2 12
It's important to remember, these figures for the weekend are released lunch-time Sunday, so estimate Sunday's figures, there may be some discrepancies.
